The Myst Series

This video is a tribute to the entire series. For better understanding Myst, the real idea here is to observe the beautiful scenery, creatures, and the culture of the people all created through the D'ni writing techniques.

To better explain: The D'ni are a group of people who, according to the books and games, were masters of The Art - creating worlds***, what they referred to as "Ages". An "Age" would be written into a book in the D'ni alphabet using a special , save for the first page which would become a link to the Age itself. A rectangular visual into the Age appears on the first page as the Age was being written, and as it is written, the world itself takes its form. Through the rectangular visual on the first page, one can see the age itself, as though a bird flying about the world.

By pressing one's hand on the rectangle, you are transported, body and all into the Age to an area designated by the writer, and seen through the visual (ensuring the traveler that the area is safe when they arrive). But no adventurer to the Ages leaves without bringing with him/her a linking book to return safely to D'ni, another Age of their choosing, or to their Relto.

D'ni is said to be located somewhere near Carlsbad, NM located deep underground beneath the desert.

***The D'ni didn't literally create worlds through The Art, but instead actually created books that linked to worlds already existent that fit the description of what a writer has written into a book - in this way, the D'ni were believers of the Multiverse.

A Relto is your own personal Age. You can only own a Relto if you have already been in contact with the D'ni. The book itself is attached to the owner's belt by a leather strap so it goes with the owner while traveling between Ages. Reltos are small and simple - nothing like Tahiti, just the basics.
